What is a good all girls boarding school in Australia

What is a good all girls boarding school in Australia?
Must have a horse riding program, where you don't need to own a horse. Must be girls only, and have a majority of boarders. Not in WA. Not equestrian team only, also lessons etc.

Is there a Flying school in Australia or New Zealand

Is there a Flying school in Australia or New Zealand?
I am 13 years old and I want become a pilot. I want to start the flying school now.

Yes, there are excellent flying schools in both countries. However, if your ambition is to become a pilot, suggest you get a copy of a book from www.workinginaviation.com that gives you the low down on schools, what airlines, want, etc. It is a very expensive business, and you must ensure you do the right preparation (you can start to take background courses whilst at school), and you go to a school approved by airlines. There are contact details in the book, and these will probably help. Good luck Verite R

are there any interesting traditions at school in Australia

are there any interesting traditions at school in Australia?
i'm a student at Russian University and need this information to arrange something interesting at school during my teaching practice. i mean some traditional holidays at school or something like that .. could you tell im more details about carnivals or school fairs?
Other - Australia - 8 Answers

1 :
Well i dont exactly know what you mean by interesting traditions. Um ill give you the basics. Our summer holidays are in december and january. we have three other sets of holidays over easter - 2 weeks - in june - 2/3 weeks depending on where you live - and in late september - 2 weeks. School day goes from 9 to between 3 and 4. most have 2 breaks. first a small one about 15 mins long. perhaps at about 11 oclock. another for 45 mins at 1 oclock. um... i dunno... what else do you want? like i said i dont know what you mean exactly by interesting traditions.
2 :
We have a thing called schoolies = lots of alcohol, drugs (in some cases; not me) and a big party. This happens for all school leavers at the end of their last year (year 12 - not insulting intelligence, I just know that some places have 6th form instead). The traditions would probably be similar to the UK. We have the traditional Easter and x-mas assemblies. We have a mock assembly each year performed by the year 12s. Our school had walk of honour for year 3s (going from infants to primary school), year 6s (going from primary to middle school), year 9s (going from middle to senior school) and year 12s who are finishing school. We'd have school camps, house sports carnivals, musical, showcase (showcases music, drama and dance), art shows, we used to have a school fair, walkathon (to raise money), music assemblies, colours assemblies, awards nights etc. I guess we don't have many interesting ones apart from schoolies, but technically that's not for school.
3 :
I can't really think of an answer to your question except for singing the national anthem every now and then.. Actually every assembly starts with a mentioning of the traditional owners of the land (the name of the aboriginal community who use to live on that particular land) Other that that.. nothing huge.. Hope that helps
4 :
We always celebrated 'Carnevale', I went to a catholic school so there were a few Italians. We made a week of it, including a multicultural food festival. Of course we had the patron saint day. School socials, and then the usual formals, graduations, schoolies! In primary school we had a lot of fete's, but that would take way to much organising. As an idea, why don't you ask your students to bring in things from their background, like costumes, food, games, etc.. Though I'm sure Russia is not as multicultural as Australia, so it may not work too well. Being Russia, you should just have a Vodka drinking contest.
5 :
Anzac Day April 25th is a traditional holiday if it falls on a week day. Anzac stands for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps and the holiday is set aside to honor Australians who have died in wars. It is probably considered the most important national occasion. Veterans celebrate by marching through the streets of cities in the morning and share drinks and memories in the afternoon. This day is very special to Australians and commemorative services begin at dawn. These ceremonies are held at war memorials around the country of Australia. During the day, the ceremonies always include an introduction, a hymn, a prayer, and address, laying of wreaths, recitation, a period of silence, and the National Anthem Australia Day 26th january This holiday commemorates the anniversary of the day in 1788 when the English declared Australia a new colony. It is celebrated with parties, picnics, and fireworks and coincides with the last days of summer vacation. This is considered a family holiday The Queens birthday celebrated on June 8th is another public holiday Infants, primary and high schools have sports carnivals. A concert put on by the students is held at the end of the school year. School uniforms are worn to indicate the school of the student. School camps are available and are supervised by teachers and sometimes parents. Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, students are encouraged to wear sunblock, it's compulsory to wear hats in the playground in Infants and primary schools.
6 :
Anzac day is a traditional holiday for Australia and New Zealand. Usually they sing the national anthem every assembly. We used to have an Anzac day service, so the cadets would march, read out names of people that died in the wars, blow trumpets and bagpipes etc etc. Most schools don't do this, its just what we did. Allot of schools do different things. So there is very little that you can say is universal amongst all Australian schools. One of the answers said that every assembly started with "we would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land" I have never heard that before. So I can't say that it is universal in Australia. Again, with the carnival thing. That would probably be a school with a larger Italian or Greek population, not all schools do this. I went to an Anglican school so we used to sing hymns in Chapel. Though it isn't really unique to Australia. Though I believe most schools sing the national Anthem at assembly and usually have an Australian flag on a flagpole somewhere. Again not really unique.
7 :
Australia doesn't have traditional holidays. Any public holidays certainly aren't spent stuck at school. Some schools might have the odd fair but generally only to celebrate a milestone ie. school centenary.
8 :
The only tradition we had at my school was Muck Up Day, whereby the students finishing Year 12 on their last day would create chaos for the whole school.

Could I really go to school in Australia without any savings

Could I really go to school in Australia without any savings?
I have a car that I could sell for about $3500. Plane ticket won't be what it is from the states, cause I'm in Guam. Have you done it or known someone who has? You have to have $18,000 AUD per year for living expenses. Could I get loans for that? Without credit? Finding the answers to these questions online has been challenging.

The most important thing is visa, if you have one you money enought to live some time untill you get a job. But if you don't have it, yo can not even enter this country without having enougth funds.
2 :
You need to prove that you have enough money for the first year of university (20K) plus the first 6 months living expenses. If you do not have this (and evidence that the money is not a recent acquisition) you will not be granted a student visa. You will only be eligible for student loans from your own country - not Australia. Also Australian universities do not have scholarships available to international students under a PhD so you will need to find your own funding for the degree.

If you are an international student you will not be able to get a loan from any Australian bank. Only PR or citizens can do that although a loan to support yourself while studying is unheard of. You will need to do what other do - that is work for a couple of years, save the money and then pay your own way. As an international student you will have to complete your intern year in your home country anyway so you will not be getting a complete degree from one of our universities.

Wanna go to school in Australia, any suggestions

Wanna go to school in Australia, any suggestions?
I've decided to make changes in my life and seek higher education outside the states. I have a two-year degree in accunting and financial management from Atlanta here in the states. I like Australia, so any suggestions where in Australia before I start writing to these colleges? I would like to live in a nice town, safe, nice weather (not too hot and not too cold) and best if not far from the ocean, I love the beach. Please advise. Thanks!

The Sunshine Coast, QLD is the perfect spot. It's a beautiful place, not far from the beach, with mild climate and many popular shopping districts. Only an hour from Brisbane, the capital of QLD. Also, the University of the Sunshine Coast is well developed and a beautiful, modern university. A great place (I should know - I live here!)
2 :
I agree with Alayna...the sunshine coast has great beaches , attractive country towns in the hinterland nearby , tropical rain forests ...all this & only an hour away from the state capital ...
3 :
I disagree with the two above me. You won't like sunshine coast, it's too country, and there is nothing special about it. It's not safe too. Sydney all the way.
4 :
i think you should try looking into unis in sydney or even wollongong uni if your looking for a smaller city
5 :
i agree with seeker about wollongong university (my local uni). the Northern suburbs are very nice safety wise, and aesthetically too. Northern suburbs (includes Wonoona, Bulli, Thirroul, Austinmere, Coledale, Scarborough, Wombarra and Stanwell Park, which has the most amazing beach) are only 20-30 minutes away from wollongong university have some of the best beaches in NSW. the weather isnt exceedingly hot most of the time. only afew days in Summer when we really really feel it. and, as i said, plenty of local beaches where you can go and cool off if it gets too hot. my parents managed the weather well enough when they moved over from england, so it mustnt be that bad! And you may be in luck with Wollongong university, because they do thend to get very good results there for accountancy and financy, etc. and it isnt very expensive as universities go. were only an hour south of Sydney too, so if you want to chase the big dollars, the daily commute up to Sydney, when you get a job, will cartainly not be a sacrifice.
6 :
Well ANU, (Australian National University) is located in Canberra, and is one of the top universities in the world, i think its sitting at 19... Although everybody else in Australia seems to dislike Canberra, i live here and personally love it! everything you need is close together, and it is the capital of Australia :) Although with the beach thing,, Canberra is 3 hours from the nearest beach, so im not sure about that... anyways,,, go see a travel agent maybe,, they might have some ideas :) :)
7 :
Perth has the best beaches in Australia (Cottesloe and Scarborough). It's very safe and the people are generally very friendly. The weather is nice, right now (autumn/fall) the days get up to about 25°C. The best University in Perth is probably UWA (University of Western Australia) although, Notre Dame is very good too. UWA is part of the Go8 Universities is Australia - the equivalent to Ivy League.

I think you can but you got to double check with the rules in the new country
2 :
I think that you'd have to take a test to show that you are understanding the medical system we have here. I think it would be a board's exam. I don't think you would need to go through everything all over. I think you just have to show them that y ou know the types of medicine we practice here.
3 :
yes or no depending. After you finish the Australian schooling, you have to write American Board exams to be certified there, as well as if you want to be able to practice in Canada or England or heaven forbid, New Zealand, you have to write the local exams to prove proficiency within their system. That is a common reason refugee doctors are unable to practice in their new home, their education is out of date to pass current boards, and they cannot afford the time or money to re-educate for the boards. So think forward, and do as many boards as you think you may end up needing. Once certified, you are able to move. But inform yourself if there are regular competency maintenance or training you need as well.

G'day, In Australia, there are 2 levels of study after Year high school that you can do. One is uni and the other is college. You mentioned that most of the courses you've come across are 3yrs, so I assume that you were looking at the universities courses. However, if you only want to study 1-2 yrs course, you may want to look at the courses offered by TAFE colleges. TAFE are government-owned institutions, fully accredited and equally recognised, so you do not have to worry abt the quality. They offers certificate and diploma courses all over Australia. You can use the online database below. Hope this helps. E-mail me at mikegun(at)studentfirst.com.au if you have any further information. Good luck and welcome to Australia :)

I believe Rex was running a part-pay cadet type program; I don't think it was direct entry, but the idea is you pay $40k, they pay $40k, you complete your training over about six months then work their cut off for the next five years. I imagine if you already have some flight training under your belt, you might get a better deal or preferential consideration. Other than that, direct entry jobs do pop up now and again on CareerOne and similar sites; your best bet, however, is plain and simple networking. Make friends with enough people and sooner or later you're likely to come across something that will work for you and the person offering will pick you over others because you come recommended. Best of luck!

find contact details of as many companies as you can and submit your resume to all. my mate had 270 hours and he scored a job out at Newman, western Australia as a a charter pilot (he applied to over 90 companies once he passed his CPL). His boss gives him a free car, a rent-free 3 bedroom house and $800 per fortnight for a guaranteed 25 hours a week flying. its been over a year, hes now got over 800 hours and learning to fly twin-engined at the company's expense! there are good deals everywhere, you just have to look everywhere to find em!

You need to be the better person, and not let it bother you, even though it's hard. Just smile because you know that one day they will all get what they deserve. Don't stoop to their level, that's what they want. Violence or retailiation is not the answer.

Either you have it or you don't. Only really smart people can get away with being evil. Mediocre people (i.e. most people) have to conform to mainstream ethical standards to survive. In order to manipulate someone, you need to know how their mind works. And if you want to use it against them, you have to know what will cause them the greatest pain and agony. Basically, just do you research on your...um...enemies. Who's friends with who? Who hates who? What frightens them the most? What will get them into deep trouble? Oh and before you do anything stupid or reckless just remember... that it's really not worth it.

Music, drama, dance, scouts, and anything else really. Usually at least one sport, often two or three. Most extracurricular activities are not organised through the school, but independently. Sometimes they are held at the school but the school doesn't have anything to do with it. For example music teachers may provide music lessons at school or at home. The school will also have it's own music groups etc and they will usually practice during school time.
2 :
?, come on, some of the questions. It seems Australians are marked as strange, FAR from it. They are normal adjusted kids as over here. They have almost the same as we have as in choir, music or bands, and Drama club. Almost forgot, this is how normal they are, they have after school detention, far from what we have. Please when your old enough, get a passport and a ticket and go, see what I have managed to see for myself.

I don't know much specifically about education courses but most major Aust/NZ Universities would offer them. Monash and The University of Melbourne are among the top universities in Australia and the University of Auckland in NZ is also well regarded but the others are good schools too. Maybe think about which city you want to go to and start from there. Good luck!
2 :
It is true that University of Melbourne and Monash are excellent universities and their faculties are well established, but I would also consider that the programs will be very 'academic'. The upside of these universities is that they also carry excellent history faculties from which you will be able to pick and choose your subjects. In terms of having fun as a student I would be looking at a faculty that is in a large city as there will be plenty of things to do and accommodation is not usually a problem. Check out the education faculties at Queensland University of Technology (Kelvin Grove Campus) and Griffith University (Mt Gravatt campus). These are teaching campuses that are well established. They are in QLD and have a beautiful climate and are an hour away from the Gold Coast!

I don't know much about Bond Uiversity but I can tell you that Macquarie University is a very nice friendly university in a nice area and commerce is its speciality. Are you Chinese? There are many Chinese people in the area surrounding Macquarie University, and around 7% of people living in Sydney have Chinese ancestry. Many students at Australian universities have difficultes with English, I don't think you should worry about it. Good luck :)
2 :
Lmao... Doctor? Well, Macquarie Uni (MQ) is a very reputable research university and has a lot of international and Asian students. It is also close to the North Shore, in particular, Chatswood where there is a large number of Chinese and Hong Kongers. I don't know much about Bond Uni so I can't tell you anything about that. Your English is very good by the way, I've seen worse which is way beyond understanding :) All the best!
3 :
I've heard a lot of bad things about schools in Australia, but the fact that these schools actually seem to accept that many students with such a substandard knowledge of the English language is simply ridiculous. I heard that only request the TOEFL exam, which is a joke in itself. To your question. I don't think you should attend any school in Australia. They can't be good if they allow students there that don't know English. That just simply should not be the case at a university. Sorry to say that.

Applications to UK universities go via an organisation caled UCAS. Their website http://www.ucas.ac.uk/students/ will give you lots of info. For the specifics of your question, most UK candidates will be applying for places on the strength of their A levels but to allow comparison of different qualifications there is a points system. For instance a grade A A-level in one subject is 120 points. So if a particular course typically accepts candidates with 2 x A and 1 x B at A-level that would be expressed as 340 points. Someone who gets equivalent scores on other qualifications would then be in with a chance of a place on that course. (Specific courses might have more detailed requirements - e.g. a physics degree would probably say you didn't just need a certain total score but also that you'd need to have acheived a particular level in physics and maths to be eligible.) The conversion tables for the tarriff are here http://www.ucas.ac.uk/students/ucas_tariff/tarifftables/. The problem is a quick search doesn't show up VCE (the VCE it mentions is a UK exam, I think Vocational Certificate of Education). This booklet http://www.ucas.ac.uk/documents/ucasguides/intquals_taster.pdf describes the Australian system (page 6). As you know the Australian jargon, you might be able to find the appropriate section in the tarriff table. If not try their FAQs or contact them.

Any Americans went to grad school in Australia

Any Americans went to grad school in Australia?
I'm looking at the possibility of going to grad school in Australia. I'm looking for information from other Americans who may have done the same thing. 1. How hard was the admissions process? 2. I've been seeing that there's 2 types of masters degrees: one by coursework, one by research. Any info on that would be helpful. 3. How difficult was it adjusting to Australian life? 4. Anything else you might think is pertinent? Thanks!

1&2. Would depend on what you are studying and the school you are applying to. I didn't find it any harder or much different than applications here in the US. You will need to provide some medical info though and get a student visa of course. 3. Absolutely not a problem - Australians are great!
2 :
The difference between the two types of master's degrees is as follows: 1. By coursework: you take courses and sit exams, and there may be some assignments, but no real research component. It's a bit like undergraduate work, just at a higher level - sometimes not even that. Sometimes the courses you do will in fact be undergraduate courses rehashed for the master's. Depends on the course you are considering. 2. By research: as the name implies, you do no courses at all ( unless you are missing a prerequisite for your research topic), but you have to do a literature review for your research topic and then do the research. It often prepares you for the PhD. Many go on to do that PhD, some even before completing the master's. 3. This is the most important difference: a master's by coursework is not as highly regarded as by research. It is considered more as a professional continuing education type course. If you are considering a Ph.D, you should take the master's by research. Hope this helps.

I'd really like to go to school internationally, preferrably in Australia

I'd really like to go to school internationally, preferrably in Australia?
I'm a high school student living in the United States. I really want to go to school in Australia but I have no clue where to start looking for information. I also want to make sure that living there would be affordable. I really want to know what I should be doing to prepare for trying to get into the country, and also who I should talk to about gathering more information. Thank you in advance :)

You are wise to start investigting now. You will need to apply to, get accpted by a university in the country you choose, then you will need a large savings to pay your way and support yourself. Most countries allow people on student visas to work part time. Hope things work out well for you. Sites below have info you will need.
2 :
OK, I take it you would like to go one year of high school in Australia? I did one in New Zealand, and the planning isn't as hard as you would think. All you need to do is contact one of the organizations that do this kind of thing and they will work everything out for you. I travelled with STS(see link), but if you are really dedicated there is a chance to do it with the Rotary club. From what I have heard, they fund the whole thing (including some pocket money), but as they don't send that many, you have to compete with a lot of others to go. There are other organizations as well, for instance: ASSE, EF and AFS. Some of these also has partners that offer the same "easy way out" for a year of university abroad. As a quick piece of advice in the end I'd like to say that taking time making sure that you choose the right organization for you is very important. They all have different ways of giving you your stay. Some take pride in making sure that you get a good school and education, others care more about you getting the best cultural and social experience, and to others you are just one more person they have to place in order to get your money...

How many hours per day do kids go to school in Australia

How many hours per day do kids go to school in Australia?
When does school start/end each day in elementary, middle and high school?
Other - Australia - 11 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Primary school kids go 6 hours per day, starting at 9am and finishing at 3pm. When they get to highschool and college they usually go 6 hours, but some schools tack on an extra half hour or so.
2 :
We have a different tier of schooling in Australia. Primary - Kindergarten to year 6, and Secondary - Year 7 to Year 12. We don't call our grades sophomores or seniors, etc.. Generally schools hours are between 8.00am and 4.00pm with primary school kids attending approx 6 hours and high school 6.5 hours. This varies between schools and private schools can also be longer hours. Never more then 7 hours in my experience unless you go to a senior college, some of these have a 4 day week so you are there for longer hours.
3 :
Both answers are correct. Each individual school has varying hours, but they usually lie between 8am - 9am start and 2pm - 3pm finish, on average. In NSW and most other states there are 4 terms per year, with a 2 week break between each term. We have roughly 6 weeks of holiday during Christmas, which is basically our version of summer vacation. In NSW (and I think many other states), in senior high school you have a leaving certificate (called HSC in NSW) which is based around subjects you select in year 11. On average you do 6 x 2 Unit subjects for a total of 12 units. If you pick a 3 unit or 4 Unit subject you may need to attend extra hours at school for these subjects.
4 :
Different states have different hours. In SA primary is Year 1-7, high school is 8-12. High school is 9-3.30pm with some school having one early day that finishes around 3pm
5 :
You have answers regarding school hours around Australia. Often Private, Independant and Church schools have a longer school day and longer holidays (vacation) than the state (public) schools. We only have Primary school and Secondary or High school, no Middle school.
6 :
We don't have elementary, middle and high school, just primary (kindy to year 6) and high school (years 7 to 12). Primary schools usually start at around 9, and finish at around 3. Times for high schools, however, can vary. Eg these two high schools in my area: School 1- starts at 8:45, finishes at 3:00, Monday to Friday. School 2- starts at 8:45, finishes at 2:10 on Mondays, 2:45 on Tuesdays (or 12:30 for year 11 and 12s), 3:00 Wednesday- Friday I'd say the average is 6 hours a day.
7 :
From other answers, it is obviously different all over Australia. My child, in Queensland, started middle school in year 7, her primary school ended in year 6. She moves up to senior school for years 11 and 12. Her middle school hours are 8:45 to 3:15, 5 days a week.
8 :
Im in Western australia From pre-school ( 5 yr old) its normaly 3 or 4 half days from yr 1-7 ( ages 6 - 12 )which is primary school - its gereraly 6 hours . 9 - 3 is the norm from yr 8-12 ( ages 13 - 17 ) is high school. and thats around 6 hours aswell , from 9-3 years 11 and 12 are seniors and depending on how many classes they choose , they may finish the day earlier or even start later then others ( while others have a free period in the middle of the day) each term goes for around 6 weeks?? i think , 2 week break inbetween terms and around 6 weeks holiday over christmas But every school varys slightly and every State / territory varys aswell
9 :
Primary - around 9.00 - 3.00. High school - 8.30 to 3.05 for me
10 :
Schools are very different in Australia than America. For one thing, we learn about the world around us. We have Pre-school maybe 1-2 hours 2 times a week for 2-3year olds. Parents go too and they paint and play and stuff. Kindergarden here is not school, there is 3 year old kinder and 4 year old kinder, both the same thing. Kids go for anywhere between 2.5 and 5 hours 2 or 3 times a week and paint, play, make, create. Then there's Primary school, most kids start at 5 years old, some do at 4 or 6. Primary school includes Prep, Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5 and Grade 6. You go from 9-3.30 at my old primary school, Mon-Fri obviously. After that we go to High School, which includes Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10, Year 11 and Year 12. My school hours are currently 9.00-3.10, however on Wednesday's we (year 12s) finish at 12.30. That's my school times in Melbourne Victoria. Sucks for whoever it was with only 6 weeks summer, I had 11 weeks this summer just past.
11 :
In primary school I went to school from 8:25 - 3:35 and now in secondary school I go from 8:30 - 3:30 So it's about 7 hours. Those are private school times though. Public schools run for less time in my state.

You need to consult with teh Australian Consulate. They would happy to accept more doctors, but I assume that migth have some sort of exam to make sure foreignors have equivalent education as theirs.
2 :
FIRST you need to find out if Dermatoogists are in demand - lets see.... http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/skilled-occupations/occupations-in-demand.htm You are in luck - Yes dermatologists are in demand So read the above website and follow the directions after your graduate and AFTER you have worked for at least 2 years to gain the required experience.
3 :
You can go to med school in the USA; train as a Dermatologist and then work as a Dermatologist in Australia provided you meet the requirements of the Australian Medical Council, the Australasian College of Dermatologists and Australian immigration. You may or may not need additional training in Australia - that will depend on how the College assesses your training, clinical experience and standard of practice. http://www.dermcoll.asn.au/public/overseas_trained_dermatologist.asp Australasian College of Dermatologists http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/occupations/d/dermatologist.htm Immigration skills assessment - mandatory before a visa application can be lodged http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/medical-practitioners/doctors.htm Visas You become eligible to apply for Australian citizenship after living in Australia for at least 4 years including at least one year as a Permanent Resident.

I finished High School last year and i attended Mentone Grammar until year 9 and then went to Frankston High School Until Year 12 as i moved out of home. I can honestly say from first hand experience that Frankston High School was better education. Although Mentone had better facilities and the sort, i found myself to be more engaged at Frankston High i know it is frankston so you probably don't want to send your kids there lol but i did save 16 grand a year on fee's lol In regards to the top performing schools academically Melbourne High School and Mac Robertson High School received 1 and 2 in regards to academic results and have for the last several years I am pretty certain these schools are public as well which means you save cash and its the best school. Your kids have to be very very intelligent to be accepted to these schools as you can't simply buy your way in like some private schools. In regards to best performing schools sporting wise if thats what your kids are more into i can honestly say Frankston High School is the best. Reason being for the last 10 years we have one the state athletics championship by a mile, out of every school in victoria. Last year we also won the Boys year 12 AFL championship, this was only competed against public schools but we played Ballarat in the Final and won by 30 odd points and competed across the whole state. Previous years we have come runners up a few times and won a couple a few years back. There was also 2 draftess to the AFL picked up in the national draft a couple of weeks back. So that does support the sporting basis. Hope i helped :)

you will be an international student so your fees will be higher
2 :
It will vary between universities, but a 2 year Master of Architecture course at the University of Queensland is AUD$53,300 (4 semesters @ $13,325 per semester): http://www.uq.edu.au/international/index.html?page=45338
3 :
It depends on which faculty it comes over, Arts is cheaper than Science which is cheaper than professional areas like economics, management, etc. Look at around 9-12K per semester, Masters is generally 3 semesters if coursework, 2years if research. Australia does not have a graduate school mentality, we do a Bachelors and then a PhD, you will find that only international students do Masters in Australia. In my Masters I was the only Australian doing the degree through 2 years of intakes.

What do girls wear to school in Australia

What do girls wear to school in Australia?
Hi I will be studying in Perth for the second half of the year this July 2008 and I'm wondering what Public School students wear? What shoes do they wear? Can I wear black closed leather shoes to school? I'm a year 11 student and I'm thinking of buying all the things I will be needing here at home so I can save money.. Also, how much is the estimated price of the uniforms?
Perth - 11 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
They wear uniforms. Contact the school and find out. Generally they are very lax on shoes, at some schools the girls can wear thongs.
2 :
most renound schools (with the exception of a few small schools) uniforms are manditory. in victoria a uniform is complete with a dress in summer and winter skirt and shirt in winter. leather school shoes are worn with both sock and stockings. just think a cliche of preppy school uniform and you get the idea.
3 :
you know you can search schools in australia http://www.australianschoolsdirectory.com.au/ and search for the website of the schools :) you can see their uniform :) im gonna be there soon && im gonna study there too! :) im 15 so probably im in the 10th-11th grade i think :D
4 :
It really depends on the school you are going to. depending on the school they may or may not require you to be in uniform. so e-mail the school or look it up on the web to get exact answer. hope that helps.
5 :
all schools wear uniforms and school shoes, each school has a different uniform you will need to find out your schools uniform and where to buy it
6 :
Most public high schools in perth wear a uniform top and jumper and let students wear denim jeans, shorts or skirts or other bottoms normally of a set colour. The tops will be about $30 and jumpers about $40-$50. Normally any shoes are allowed and there are no restrictions on hair, jewellery and makeup. Private schools have full summer and winter uniform and strict policy on shoes, hair and makeup. Private school uniforms are about $500 and up depending on the school.
7 :
so does your school have uniform?? a full uniform with blazer or is it black pants and the school shirt or nothing at all. you probably need to find this out. and only wear black leather shoes if your school requires full uniform which i doubt, otherwise any shoe will do. clothing we wear would be comfort + style like track pants, ugg boots, tshirt, shorts, mini skirt; just casual, i dont think anybody would go semi formal and wear a summer dress but i dunno, that's just my guess, i go to a private school so i have to wear a full uniform
8 :
In Perth it depends on whether your going to a public or a private school. I got to a public school and wear lime green converse to school with a bright red highlight in my hair and the teachers don't mind as long as the shoes are closed in (no ugg-boots). Most school colours are navy blue and are a simple polo shirt which will be about $25au and the jacket which is usually around $50 and so as long as you wear it you can wear almost any bottoms as long as they are navy. Most girls get pants, skirts, shorts etc from supr'e which often works out cheaper than buying from the uniform shop but jeans are unfortunately banned.. Public schools will have stricter guild lines and will probably require you to wear black leather shoes and the uniform you will be able to get from the school, and make-up is allowed as long as it's not "theatrical"
9 :
Public schools students wear a polo shirt with the schools logo on it, runners or state shoes, with pants, skirts or shorts. (jeans have been banned from all Perth and Australian schools) best to check with your individual school for info. or go on the school website for what colour pants and you will probably need a special school t-shirt so i would buy one just yet. You probably can wear black leather shoes to school although i don't think you will find many people wearing them, i think its better to go with slip on runners/joggers/sand shoes without shoe lases. The school will have their own jumper/jacket/pull over. The price should be relativly cheap: pants - $20-$30 top - around $20 shoes - varry but say $20 -30 goodluck! you will love it!
10 :
My daughter is in Year 8 and goes to a public high school in Perth (Kelmscott Senior High) I asked her if it would be okay to wear a closed in leather type school shoe and she said it would be totally gay. She wears Volleys (a nasty flat cheap type of tennis shoe) but I think she has been copying the year 12s so it is not just a uncool year 8 thing to wear. Any sort of sneakers or 'flats' should be okay though. Uniform -roughly- polo shirts about $15 each, skirts, pants $20- 30. Jumpers $35 +
11 :
Most wear leather buckle shoes, as for uniform aim for around the $150 mark, your going to need a shirt, and skirt/pants and then because your going in july it's going to be cold so you'll most likely need a jacket and usually schools only want you to wear there jackets so around the $150 is your best bargain. Also usually the schools only prefer white ankle socks so you may want to keep that in mind as well.

Should I attend law school in the US or Australia

Should I attend law school in the US or Australia?
I'm a wanderer by nature and have recently been contemplating moving to Australia. As much as I love NY I've been here all my life and would love to move to a milder climate with less harsh winters. I had been considering law school school in the SF bay area but now I've been thinking about leaving the US and not just the east coast. Australia (Sydney or Melbourne) seems like a wonderful alternative. My question is should I go to law school here (CA most likely) and then try to get a job in Australia? Or should I try to apply to an Australian law school as an international student? If I decide to come back to the US I could always get my LLM and then take the bar to be able to practice law in the US. I'm just conflicted because I don't know very much about international law programs and how difficult it would be for me to attend law school in Australia. Or what sort of qualifications I'd have to go through to be able to practice law in Australia with a J.D.

I would probably do some research on the school. Also try finding a phone number you could call or even an e-mail address and ask for information or ask about the school. After thats done it's really up to you to decide. In my opinion its a great opportunity to take advantage of because if you don't do it you might regret it later on. I would also put into consideration the money side of it. After you've considered all of those, it's really up to you and your preference. good luck with whatever you decide to do
2 :
You'd better be sure about living in Austrailia if you go to law school there. I think for most people, where you go to law school is where you end up practicing. There are a lot of milder climates in the U.S, for instance, Los Angeles, but I wouldn't call it "mild" today (very hot today). If you want adventure and a total change of pace, how about applying to the University of Hawai'i? I applied there, but didn't attend. I ended up at USC in Los Angeles, which is where I practice now.
3 :
G'day, If what you want is to pursue a career in Australia, it makes more sense to study law in Australia, so you will know the Australian law from scratch, and also you have the advantage of immersing yourself in the Australian culture while studying, which will come handy when you want to apply for a job later. Just for your information, I am assuming that you want to work in Justice Dept (JD) later. However you will need to be an Australian Citizen to work in government dept. You can apply for a Permanent Residency once you have successfully completed your study. After a few years (currently 2yrs) you can apply for Australian Citizenship. Some may argue that the university belongs to The Group of 8 (www.go8.edu.au) are the 'famous' one. However they group was formed just to unify the promotional effort. The members cannot claim that they are the best at everything that they offers. There are only 42 (soon to be 43) universities in Australia, all of them are fully accredited and they are tightly regulated, therefore the quality and recognition of their graduates are equal from wherever university you are studying from. The most important thing is you have to READ the course information carefully, since some courses may have the same name but different content. There are quite alot of Australian universities offering Law courses to international students. To find out the course that you are interested in taking and where it is offered, I suggest you to go to Dept of Education, Science and Technology (http://cricos.dest.gov.au) and IDP Education Australia website (www.idp.edu.au). IDP is an organisation that gives information to international students who wants to continue their study in Australia. The information abt fees & requirements can be found in the university's website. Please make sure that you access the information for internationals students, since some requirements, application form and fees are different than Australians'. Once decided on the uni, fill in the application form and send it together with certified copy of your academic qualification. So with many options for your to choose, this is my suggestion to narrow down your choice: 1. Choose the city you want to study in. The consideration maybe the lifestyle, living cost and weather. Melbourne has a colder climate compared to Sydney, but nowhere as cold as NY in winter. FYI... there's no snow in the Australian capital cities. The coldest temperature in Melbourne is 4C in winter morning. Never 0C or below. 2. Find the area of law that you want to work/career in. This may be family/commercial/international/etc. Check if the uni's are offering the area. Hope this helps. Good luck for your study and welcome to Australia :)
