Comics/animation school in Australia

Comics/animation school in Australia?
Good comics/animation school (for cartoonists or animators) in Australia? Hi, guys. I am thinking about going to Australia, is there any illustration schools in Australia, and in which city? I am more interested in comics production, but animation is OK also. I was thinking about applying to Van-Arts (Canada) in first, but it seems to be that in Australia education is MUCH cheaper than in Canada. Will highly appreciate ANY help? Thank you very much in advance!

Timeline for attending college in Australia for a US student

Timeline for attending college in Australia for a US student?
I am a current US high school senior, and was thinking of applying to a university in Australia... I tried looking for a timeline for admissions stuff, but couldn't find any. Since first semester is in January for schools in Australia, how would that work as a US student? And if I applied now would I be able to get an admissions decision around the same time I'll be getting decisions for my schools in the US?

You won't find any general timeline info about studying abroad because each university and college the world over has its own timeline set for native and foreign students. I'm guessing you would have to start the process well in advance if they start university in January. That is a bit of poor planning right off the bat, and you can't survive in a foreign country if you can't plan properly. First of all - you have no idea what school you even want to go to in Australia. So, that lets me know that this may be a spur of the moment decision for you. If you had researched and narrowed down the colleges of choice you were looking at - you would not even have to post this question because all of them would have had a section for "international applicants" that would have told you exactly what to do. So I suggest, if you're really serious about this, that your next steps be thusly: 1) Decide what you want to major in. What are your career interests. There's no way you're gonna go to another country and do what most American kids do here - waffle around not declaring a major til Jr year - and even then, still not being sure. So narrow down some majors for yourself. 2) RESEARCH and IDENTIFY Australian universities that can accommodate that major! You're not gonna go to Australian Arts University if you wanna be a scientist. Then again, if you are going back and forth between wanting to be a scientist and a writer - you may want to research both types of universities and then -> 3) LOOK up the admission requirements and deadlines for foreign students for EACH school you're interested in. You will probably have to have your grades and other test scores converted to its equivalent in Australia. This stuff takes TIME. You may even have to take Australian tests if American ones aren't accepted (i.e. ACT, SAT). You will probably need recommendations from teachers, employers, etc. You'll more than likely have to write an essay about why you want to go to that university. 4) READ the application requirements and begin getting the materials together to be able to complete the application CORRECTLY. Then fill out the application online (or however they request it). FINANCIAL AID will be a huge factor - that's also another process that takes massive amounts of TIME. You'll be wanting to research and apply for study abroad or international education scholarships. Trust me - you'll need that. A lot of universities want to know you can support yourself UP FRONT for all the years you intend to be there as you will not have access to their welfare or needy person programs. And most, if not all, foreign universities will not allow you to work any significant amount of time while you study. They are not trying to give their resources and jobs to people who have other countries to go home to and for whom studying abroad is a luxury. If your parents will fork over enough cash to cover you - you'll have to prove that you have all the money you need IN THE BANK before you leave. They'll ask for financial records. You will definitely be too late to apply for and win any scholarships at this late date. You can try checking www.fastweb.com as a start. It's a great resource anyway. Your high school counselor should also be able to tell you of other relevant scholarship and grant opportunities, but since you're the one who wants to go abroad - you're the one responsible to do the leg work to try to get there. Be sure that you want to go to the university, too as some of them may charge steep admissions fees of $50 - $75 dollars or more. They do this so they don't waste time going through frivolous applications. 5) IDENTIFY the person to contact for international applicants and make sure you email that person or call. They have hundreds and hundreds of new and returning applicants and can't be expected to remember any of you. The more you make yourself known, the better advantage you give yourself over other applicants. Don't email the person every day or anything, but as soon as you identify them - find a reason to touch base. Email them and tell them you've just submitted an application and you're excited about the possibility of being accepted and if they need any additional information from you - feel free to let you know. Ask them if there are any current American and/or Australian students who would be willing to talk to you about the university and their experiences there. ALWAYS DO THAT. It shows you're serious and that you have a real interest in the university and the university culture.

As far as I know you go into whichever year group is for your age. For example, if you are 16 years old before september this year, in September you will go into year 12, which is technically considered college or further education, since after year 11 education is not compulsory in the UK. Years 12 and 13 are for the 16-18 year olds, and that's when you choose 1-4 specific subjects to take to AS (1 year course) or A2 Level (continued for a second year). As I said though, it's not compulsory, although if you want to get to Uni, you should take your A2s.
2 :
We do not have "grades" in schools in London or the UK - which 'class' you are put in depends entirely on what age you are at the start of September each year. September is the start of the school year here. Each 'class' is given a year number starting from one for children of 5 years old. So you will go into Year 7 if you are 11 at the start of September You will go into Year 8 if you are 12 at the start of September Year 9 if you are 13 at the start of September. Year 10 if you are 14 at the start of September Year 11 if you are 15 at the start of September Year 12 if you are 16 at the start of September. This has no relation to whatever academic qualifications you may have received elsewhere. So whether you will be repeating any of the work you have already done will depend on the differences in curriculums between the UK and Australia

What courses do u need to do secondary school teaching (in Australia)?
I was thinking of going to UWS and I need to know what courses I need to undertake? Also how much fees will be? and what courses I'll need to do if I just do primary teaching. I'm 22 and have completed courses in training and assessment if they help with anything? can't u do HECS instead of paying upfront?

The Cert IV is meaningless with regards to primary and high school teaching. You will need either 1) Bachelor of Education, or 2) Bachelor of X plus a Graduate Diplomain Education , or 3) Bachelor of Education (Primary). Each is a 4 year process.
2 :
At UWS, the Bachelor of Arts (Pathways to Teaching Primary) is a three year full time undergraduate degree. It will allow you to complete an Education Studies major, gaining the necessary learning areas to satisfy the NSW Institute of Teachers discipline knowledge requirements for entry into further studies in teaching. Graduates of the Bachelor of Arts (Pathways to Teaching Primary) who wish to become qualified Primary teachers, continue with the postgraduate Master of Teaching (Primary). The Masters course is offered at the Bankstown campus and is available one year accelerated mode or one and a half years full time. The consecutive combination of an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts (Pathways to Teaching Primary) degree and postgraduate Master of Teaching (Primary) qualification will give you direct access to a teaching career with improved prospects for career advancement. Unless you have a scholarship, you will be paying a yearly HECS fee of $5,422. You can pay it off as a HECS debt but it is cheaper to pay up front...if you can afford it!

you may not qualify, immigration to Australia is strict your mothers needs to be formally skilled and experienced in an occupation listed as needing workers

How do I go to college in Australia?
I am from Cleveland, OH and currently lost my mother. In the spirit of trying to live life to the fullest, I am thinking of trying to Study Abroad for my last two years of school. Just so you know the truth...if you want to attend school in another country , you need plenty of money...financial aid id usually not available for foreign students. And, you will be required to show proof of a sufficient amount of savings to cover your tuition and living expenses. Are you talking about high school or university? You will find that if you want to "live life to the fullest", you will need to be able to pay for it. I hope you can find a way but just be prepare for it to not be cheap.

In Australia, what is the difference between the Master of Commerce degrees and the MBA degrees

In Australia, what is the difference between the Master of Commerce degrees and the MBA degrees?
I noticed that they offer both of those degrees. The Master of Commerce degrees in Australia are awarded by the Faculty of Business and Economics of the respective school for the most part, at times by the business school. The MBA is always awarded by the Business School of that school. Both degrees are really expensive. What is the main difference between these two degrees and how are they regarded? How would employers in the US for instance distinguish between the Master of Commerce from Australia and the MBA from there? Note, the Master of Commerce is NOT an MS degree. It is a Master in Business. Almost all schools in Australia have it such as Monash, Queensland, Sydney, Macquarie etc. In the States this degree doesn't exist at all.

The MBA is a general business degree training students for top level management positions up to CEO or for those with entrepreneurial objectives of starting their own business. The Master of Science is a specialized degree in a particular field such as finance, chemistry, accounting, engineering, etc. training students for top level staff and research positions who prefer not to get into general management. You are going to have to look hard to find a Master of Science course majoring in accounting. A Master of Commerce is not a Master of Business, It is a Master of Commerce. If it was a master of Business, that is what you would be awarded when you finished. Why an MBA is a generalist Degree, A MComm tends to focus on one area of management or business such as economics, acounting, fincnance or marketing.

The Australian MBA is management degree, designed for those intending to move into senior management positions. An MBA can be entered by anyone holding a previous degree in any discipline eg a lot of engineers do an MBA as they move into senior management roles. The master of commerce degree is a masters degree in which you can specialise in ecconomics/accounting/finance etc. It can only be entered if you hold a previous bachelors degree in one of these areas. So ...which to choose ? Choose an MBA if you are looking for advanced management training. Choose an MCom. if you are looking for higher level studies in accounting.ecconomics,finance. Both forms of degrees are very well regarded by employers, and Australia has several world-ranked universities/business schools..viz; Melbourne, Monash, ANU, Sydney, NSW, Queensland. Hope this helps.

I'm from melbourne so I can't say I've experienced dance schools over there. Though I have heard about Sydney dance company(SDC) offering Hip hop classes. Taught by world class teachers such as Yannus Sufandi who was on the Asian sytycd as a choreographer and judge, they also have a lot of guest choreographers such as JD from sytycd Australia. SDC has a very good reputation and world renouned dancers. Knowing many people who have studied there I can say it's a reputable school. They also one of the only schools probably in this country that teach a variety of dance styles including contemporary, ballet ,funk , latin american,JFH which is a combination of jazz funk and hip hop which is taught by Rhiannon Villareal from sytycd Australia. You're actualy quite lucky to live in sydney to be able to take advantage of such an amazing school connected to an amazing dance company.

You want answers from people who've actually experienced the place - then go to your local dancewear shop. It's their business to know who teaches what and where. Better than phoning around as each school will try to sell itself. Dancewear shops have no ax to grind so will give unbiased opinions (hopefully) so you could try more than one. Good Luck

Every school has different fees so it's impossible to give you a firm reply to your question about costs. Also no one can tell you if it's 'expensive' because we don't know your personal finances to determine what's considered expensive or not for you. You will need to research the individual universities in order to get an estimate of their tuition costs and determine for yourself.
2 :
Actually this is an easy question to answer. If you are an overseas student in primary school (regardless of the school) the government fee is 4K per year per child PLUS what ever fee the individual school may place on you.

aww, calm down honey :) I live in Canberra (the capital of Australia) and people are very relaxed and welcoming. People will generally start conversations with you, because you are the new kid, so be very polite, answer their questions nicely, be welcoming and inviting, and people will instantly click with you. Don't be afraid t ask for help, if you need to find your way to classes or anything, and that will also be a good way to get to know people. Good luck and have lots of fun in the mighty land of aus :)

People in school take to the British very well, every British kid that moved to the school I went to made friends very easily. DO NOT be shy and quite because this will make people think your not interested and they will not approach you in the first place, you need to talk back and engage people in order for them to be comfortable and want to be friends. You'll make friends in no-time! :)

High School in Australia

High School in Australia?
Okay I'm in 10th grade and I'm planning on going to school next year in australia. By the time I finish my summer vacation here in the U.S, They will be on their school holidays. I would start in february. Anyway, If I'm in all honors and an Ap, would I be able to go into 12th grade over there? What do you think? Or, if I go to a community college for a semester, would I be able to get credits for 11th and move into 12th in Australia? thanks

Australia does not have community college - its TAFE is post high school. Depending on which state you are going to Year 12 either goes from Feb-Nov or Oct-Sep (i.e in NSW there are three terms of year 11 (instead of 4) and the last term of the year everyone starts year 12. A significant portion of the year 12 mark is assessment throughout the year so if you are going to NSW then your year 12 score (which is also your uni entrance score) will be lower. Usually when you change from northern to southern or vice versa you are put back 6 months (i.e. you will do six more months of year 11 before going onto year 12). Australian and American high school is completely different from each other so you will need that extra time to acclimatize. The most important difference is that you compete against the ENTIRE STATE for each subject - not just the students in your school (the end of year exam for each subject is sat at the same time across the state and is the same exam - that score is then you uni entrance score in that subject).
2 :
In Australia Year 12 is HSC, a major exam year. We don't really have a community college, I think you mean TAFE. Some of my friends go there but that is for when you finish high school and is limited in courses that you can study. Year 12 is apparently (I'm not in Year 12 yet) the best year of high school here cos you get heaps of free classes (in which you do "work" or watever you like) in between actual classes, there is muck up day at the end of the year and a formal. Also after Year 12, here in Australia we celebrate alot. You can go to schoolies which is a holiday for a week or two up in QLD with friends and just do something else. Hope you like Australia!!! PS: Remember there is no way to earn extra credit here in Australia!

G'day, William Angliss TAFE, as the previous answerer recommended, is one. But there are also others like Blue Mountain School in Sydney. It depends on what level do you want to study in. TAFE/colleges usually offer non-degree courses, whereas universities offer degree courses. There are only 42 (soon to be 43) universities in Australia, all of them are fully accredited and they are tightly controlled, therefore the quality and recognition of their graduates are equal from wherever university you are studying from. The most important thing is you have to READ the course information carefully, since some courses may have the same name but different content. To find out the latest info abt course that you are taking and where it is offered, I suggest you to go to the Dept. of Education, Science and Training website (http://cricos.dest.gov.au) and IDP Education Australia (www.idp.edu.au). If you want to go to University of Sydney it will be a minimum 7 years comprised of: 3 yrs - First bachelors degree in any field that enables you to apply for entry into the dentistry program Plus 4 yrs - Bachelor of Dentistry which is the dental specific qualification Note to progress from your first degree to the dentistry program you apply using the marks (GPA) in your 1st degree plus results from the Graduate Aust Medical Schools Admissions Test (GAMSAT) which you have to take. This may get you an interview then dependant on your interview and GAMSAT results you maybe offered a position. Its quite a lengthy process but it can be done. Hope you manage to get there - good luck with it!

How much does it cost to study in Australia

How much does it cost to study in Australia?
Hello. I'm from Singapore and wanted to study in Australia badly. how much is the school fees + living cost at Australia? and i wants to study there either after my GCE N level or GCE O level. So do I need to study high school in Australia or so before entering the university in Australia or do i need to study a poly in Singapore till i graduate then go to Australia to study?

Hi, I'm not sure what GCE N level or stuff but I'll share all I know. I live in Australia and am going to high school there. To apply for universities in Australia, one year will cost you aprox $25,000 Australian dollars. It's a lot! For high school in Australia, we have for years 11 and 12 a 2 year program (in Victoria it's called VCE) or you can study the IB diploma (2 years as well). To board at a high school will cost $27,000 for school education and $21,000 to board. That's at one of the top private girls schools, so that's as expensive as it gets. Public schools would be a lot less and I know one that offers homestays for international students. This may be a good option. You don't need to study high school in Australia to get into an Australian university but it would probably make it a lot easier :) How about a high school exchange? If you come to Australia on an exchange (they go to up to a year) to see if you like Australia or to see if you would like to go to high school here before university. If you would like more information feel free to contact me :)

I don't see why it wouldn't be a good idea. I live in Melbourne and have been to two high schools, you get your idiots at all school but in the end its you who decides what to make of the experience and who you hang around with. Besides starting at any new school you don't know anyone but by the end of the day you'll get a good idea whose, who and who you want to be friends with. I don't know if you coming from another country or not but your home stay family will be there for any situations that you have and it'll be a great experience for you.

How do i apply for a job in Australia as a current student in Canada?
I'm a student at university in Ontario. My girlfriend is going to school in Australia for the summer so I've decided i'm going to go down and live with her for a few months in the summer. I was wondering how i would go about applying for a restaurant-type job in Sydney for the summer months. I'm obviously new to this, so any pointers or tips would be greatly appreciated.

How do you become a lawyer in Australia

How do you become a lawyer in Australia?
In the States you need to get a 4 year bachelors and then attend law school after that, which typically takes around 3 years. But what do you have to do to become a lawyer in Australia? I completed my bachelors and was thinking of going to law school in Australia if possible, but was a little confused about the setup here and the degrees.

2 :
It depends on which university you go to. A couple of them are currently changing to the American system of a general undergraduate degree and then a postgrad specialisation. At universities like that (the only one I know of currently doing this is Melbourne University but there may be others - University of Western Australia is changing soon to this) you'd do an Arts degree for 3 years first. You'd probably have to choose certain subjects that relate to the law as well as a few outside of the arts faculty to fulfil the undergraduate course requirements. After that you would probably do a Master of Law for 2 years. So at the end of that you'd have a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Law. Most other universities currently have a undergraduate law degree that you can do straight out of high school. You'd graduate from that with a Bachelor of Law. Many, if not all, universities offer a Master of Law or a Graduate Diploma of Law for postgrad students, whether they've done a Bachelor degree in Law or not. It depends what you have already and what you want to do. The best option you have is to decide where in Australia you'd like to study. The capital cities are your best bet for good universities (think Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Hobart and Canberra) and then research the universities in that city to find out what they offer. The university year is starting about now for all uni's here so there will be people in the offices if you want to email any enquiries. Good luck with your research and choices! Edit: Additionally, be aware that Australia doesn't have much of an on-campus-living culture. There is accommodation available but not much of it so you may need to look into off-campus housing. The fees for international students are quite high in comparison to the domestic student fees so it might get a bit pricey.
3 :
You do a law degree. Only medicine / surgery requires a science (or similar) degree prior to entry. All other undergraduate degrees can be entered straight from school (or without completing any other degrees) Degrees are ranked so Law is more difficult to get into it...
4 :
Two pathways - undergrad law, or a postgrad entry where the entry is ANY degree but with a Credit/Distinction average. A BA is not a requirement - a BSc is fine. Then you do a Bachelor of Law (not a Masters). That is what you need to be a lawyer. The postgrad and Masters degrees are to specialize AFTER you have a law degree (e.g. international law, IP law). Since you have a Bachelors already that is what you need to apply although if you have any Pass marks throughout your entire degree it will be very hard to get in (all scores need to be a Credit or Distinction). Your only hope would be if that year youapply there is not much demand (which is unlikely - law is going the way of Medicine where 2 years ago it was a Credit average - now its a Distinction average). BTW - you can get into PostGrad Medicine with a BMusic - so Science is not a requirement - you just need a Distinction average (2 of the 2009 entrants into USyd postgrad Medicine had a BMus as entrance)

Can I Primary School Teach In Australia, England Or America?
I am doing my leaving certificate in ireland and i'm from ireland. Leaving certificate is the same as A- Levels, HSE or SET'S. For my leaving certificate i am doing these subjects, Irish, Spanish, English, Maths, Home Economics, Geography, Biology. I want to do primary school teaching but i really dont want to do it in ireland. I want to go to college in one of the above places and do a course in primary education. Is it possible???

Yes, you can. For America, you will first need to apply to various colleges. Then, you need to send a transcript of your courses to the universities/colleges you wish to go to to see what undergraduate requirements you may be needing (there probably will not be a problem). You would also probably need to take the ACT or the SAT to enter.

Good engineering schools in Australia and New Zealand

Good engineering schools in Australia and New Zealand?
I'm looking at doing a study abroad in Australia or New Zealand next year. I am a mechanical engineering major and do not want to be pushed back for graduation. Therefore, I want to go to a school that has a decent engineering program. Right now, I have a list of universities that have engineering programs but I want to know which ones are known for engineering just to make sure I'll be able to transfer credits for engineering courses. I want to move to Australia after high school. Can someone help me with the details?
After high school, I definitely want to study out of the US. I've grown up here and I hate it. Really i want to move to Australia but I'm not a very good researcher. I would like to know: 1. How's life there? 2. Where is it cheaper? 3. What kind of money they use? 4. Good colleges to go to? 5. Good city to live in?

I am in the same vote as you...I have grown up in boring illinois my entire life and i hate it - I totally am wanting to go to Australia for university when I graduate from high school within the next year and a half. I would recommend looking to this website for sufficient information: www.australearn.com They have some great information regarding many of the universities in Australia and the fees, lifestyle, and info about each city that a university is located in. Its been really helpful to me thus far! And they also have some info about scholarships and such. The money that they use is AUD...and you can find out how much USD there is for a specific amount of AUD if you just google "currency exchange" and then plenty of searches will come up. Currently however, the US has a higher exchange rate than Australia making some things such as tuition actually cheaper in USD money. Good luck! BTW - What are planning on majoring in?
2 :
I live in Australia and life here is reasonably pleasant! The cheaper places is always areas further away from the city. Good universities to go to is University of Sydney or Melbourne. Maybe go to the top university in canberra called the Australian National University. I live in melbourne and i personally think the city has a good night life and shopping. Sydney city has the most sightseeing places and parks. Just come here and check it out even for a few days. All the best!
3 :
everyone seems to be ditching their countries and coming to australia :) 1. life is pretty easy here.. everything is available to you. medicare (free healthcare), free education, public transport, cultural places, multicultural (what i love about sydney) umm... great shopping and fun places to go, things to see. its fun! 2. generally the western suburbs of each city is cheaper because they are inland.. esp. in sydney. western suburbs are far cheaper for housing and shopping then it is in the city or "richer" suburbs near the ocean... but all in all everything is at a good price. 3. we use the australia dollar.. we have coins in 5cents, 10cents, 20cents, 50cents, 1 dollar, 2 dollar, 5 dollar notes, 10 dollar notes, 20 dollar notes, 50 dollar notes and 100 dollar notes. you can also occasionaly find the new zealand 20c or 10c coin lol 4. usually the universities with the city names are the regarded as the best in that area, i.e: uni of sydney, uni of melbourne, uni of brisbane, uni of adelaide, uni of tasmania, uni of perth, uni of canberra.. but im not sure is theres a uni of darwin lol colleges are called universities in australia.. 5. i would recommend absolutely any city. when i finish high school in 2010 i might go uni of adelaide because im not really fond of the unis in sydney (where i am). im not sure yet but if i stay in sydney i would go to uniof NSW or uni of technology sydney or uni of sydney..depending on my course.. i have 2 years to decide ! you said your not a good researcher but go to wikipedia and look up universities in sydney or melbourne or universities in australia and have you read for your self.. it really depends on your likes :) good luck

A 2 unit math pass is a requirement for most education subjects at Uni. Same goes for English. Remember you only have to pass these subjects to make it easier to choose more broad electives at Uni. The main thing you have to do is get that UAI and get into the course. All the big Uni's have their open days quite early in the year, why not go along and check the one nearest to you? They keep changing the systems, so keep on the ball:)

School year dates in Australia/Tasmania?
I am looking into teaching at an international school in Australia or Tasmania. I read on a website that the school year starts in December. How could this be? If this is the case, then isn't it very hard for international school teachers to enter into and leave a job in this country? This means a teacher would have to leave their job a half year early or not work for a half year in order to start the job in December.

It depends. Their school system is different than the States.... For those in K-12 grade, their year is broken up into 4 'terms', ten-week stretches that go throughout the year with about two weeks off in-between. These weeks can be broken as our school year is for holidays. To quote from KaBooBie: "Our school year starts with first term in January and goes until about April, then we have 2 weeks off before going back for another 10 week term between April - July, 2 weeks off, another 10 week term between July - Sep/Oct, 2 weeks off and then our last term runs from October until December. School finishes up just a few days before Christmas, and this break lasts for 6 weeks, this is our summer break."

School holiday dates vary a little from state to state, but roughly: Summer holidays from Mid December until late January First mid-semester break of 1 or 2 weeks towards the end of April Mid-year break of 2 weeks late June/early July Second mid-semester break 2 weeks in late September. Private schools usually have longer breaks. All public schooling is free for citizens and PRs. The government contributes a significant amount per student to all private schools which has the effect of lowering school fees below what would otherwise be charged.
2 :
1 School year Starts in late January (usually after Australia Day on 26th January) First lot of holidays is around Easter. Then June / July. Then September. The school year finishes about 2 weeks prior ro Christmas although some years finish late November 2) Public schools are government funded However there are some fees for books and excursions and such. I don't know if this is only for Australian taxpayers.
3 :
The beginning of the first term of the year starts usually right at the end of January. Primary school starting age is usually 5 years of age but no later than 7 years of age. Every January we receive $50.00 per child from our state governments. That usually covers all the stationary for most of the year. Although we are billed for school fees/contributions, it's not compulsary to pay them but if all parents paid these contributions then our schools will only benefit with better technology, sporting equipment etc etc. State Primary school fees/contributions are usually in the vacinity of $300.00 pa while high schools could demand between $500.00 to $750.00 pa. There are 4 terms per year with 2 week holidays per quarter except end of the year they receive 5-6 weeks off.

Some ones I have looked into have been SAE Institute, JMC Academy and Sydney Film School. At university you should consider doing a course such as a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, Bachelor of Communication (Media Arts and Production), Bachelor of Arts (Television Production)-all are very similar.
