As long as you are a legal resident (as that includes legal status as a refugee in Uganda) you can apply to the local. Australian High commission. However Uganda does not have an Australian High Commission, so you would have to apply to the one in neighbouring Kenya Postal address PO Box 39341 Nairobi Telephone Chancery Main Line +254 20 4277 100
2 :
As long as your diploma is recognized, you can always try to apply for university. Like all university applicants, you will go through the same route. If you do get a place in university, you can try to apply for a visa on the account that you are studying there.

where in aus will you be going? how old are your kids? you will need birth certificate, pass port, immunisation records and your personal details ie address, phone numbers and emergency contacts. enrolment is open at all times in the public school system.
2 :
As Yayy said. The school year starts at the end of January and ends in mid December. Most of the states have 4 terms. The next holidays are the September/ October holidays. I'm sure your kids will need some time to settle in and orientate themselves, so send them to school after the holidays. Unless you want them out of the way so you can unpack your house :) The school will walk you through the enrollment process, so don't worry too much.

I am at a school in Sydney, Australia. I was wondering if it is possible for me to finish my HSC at my school in Sydney and then go straight to the Paris Sorbonne for university? I don't want to do an exchange or anything like that. I just want to send in an application and study all of my university years at the Sorbonne. Thanks!

How's the job market for primary school teachers in Australia

How's the job market for primary school teachers in Australia?
Basically I'm going to be moving to Australia in a year or so for TC and would like to know if it is worthwhile to entertain the notion of staying in Australia to teach. I will be doing Primary. Any information about whatever area you are in (or know about) would be greatly appreciated. Web searches do not yield a great lot of information, and hardly indicate the normal circumstances! Yes, and some details about location and job opportunity would be great!

I'm thinking about being primary school teacher when I leave school and I need to know whether you have to study Maths Studies in high school. I'm not exactly that good at maths so I want to do Maths Applications which is simpler than Maths Studies. Any information is great :)

Moving to Australia for school

Moving to Australia for school?
In the near future, I am interested in applying to 2 or 3 schools in Australia and 1 in New Zealand because of their veterinary program. I was interested in any advice that anyone had. I would like to know what requirements I'd have to meet to be able to live their to go to school; how to get personal belongings there and how much I should take; best and most affordable places to live after there is no longer an on-campus housing requirement. I guess that's all I can think of. Thanks!

For Australia, you must first apply to the veterinary school for acceptance: most uni websites have information on academic requirements. When you've been accepted, apply for your student visa and include the acceptance letter. You must declare on your application that you have enough money to pay for travel, tuition and living expenses. You will be expected to have access to money for return air travel, at least AUD$12,000 per year for living expenses and of course, your tuition fees. You must also maintain health insurance while in Australia and include evidence of that with your visa application. http://www.immi.gov.au/students/students/chooser/ Take as much as you can as personal luggage and ship any other essentials as freight though most students manage with what they can fit in their luggage. The type of clothing you'll need will depend on where in Australia you will be studying. In Queensland for example, you won't need heavy winter clothing at all. I live in Brisbane and don't even own a coat or parka (though if you'll be at UQ's Gatton campus, it can get pretty chilly out there on winter mornings) and even in our southern states, it doesn't get as cold as in the UK, Europe and most of North America. Most students live in accommodation (units and houses) shared with other students and most never live on campus at any time. Living on campus is the exception rather than the norm.

The decision to minimise the study of Australian history was taken by the department of education about 17 years ago. Political correctness and a feeling that history should be replaced by social, environmental and contemporary cultural studies has lead to most high school kids knowing lots about green house gases, Styrofoam, and contemporary culture studies such as "The impact of Australian Idol in the Australian Media Audience" and little about Australian historical figures. Much of this is powered by the education departments skewed pro multicultural ideology and politically correct rhetoric designed to keep Australians ignorant of their historical heritage because in the view of the department, it is not in keeping with buzz words such as "tolerance". In short left wing power brokers in the department are embarrassed about our historical roots and see teaching it in the class room as socially and politically disenfranchising to the political goals of the organisation as expressed through its union and industry associations. Good Luck Jimmy

I'm pretty sure you can. My doctor and orthodontist are Indian and got their degree in like, India or Russia, I think. When you wait about 30 minutes for them to come back with scan results you look at everything in the office or read and I don't think they got their degree here...
2 :
I cant see why not. Why not do your degree here? Australia is beautiful but teachers often complain they are underpaid here.
3 :
In Australia the education degree you have for high school is different than the one you get for primary school. Here we need a 4 year Bachelor of Education (Primary Education) to teach in a primary school - note that in Australia most Bachelors are only 3 years so a B.Ed is a year longer than our normal Bachelors (so a Masters might be required in the US). The degree must have at least 42 days of supervised teaching in a school situation.

It depends on which university you go to. One of the best programs is at Murdoch University, Western Australia. The basic fee structure is AUD45,000 (annual tuition fee for 2011 in AUD - 24 pts). The course is internationally acclaimed and was one of the first to be accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). So upon graduation, you will be able to work in N. America. High school students are out of school from around the middle of December until the end of January. University students are on vacation between late November until late February/early March depending on the university.
3 :
Well the school year in Australia starts in late January to early February so it will probably be school holidays for part of the time that you are there. University students start later so they will generally be on holidays the whole time that you are there.

What is high school like in Australia

What is high school like in Australia?
I am in 10th grade and want to study abroad in Australia (I am from America) with either a host family or at a private boarding school. I have been to Australia many times, but I have no clue what their school system is like. Is it true that they don't let you wear makeup? What is a typical day like? At the private schools, are you allowed to have non-supervised free days on the weekends?

You are very much allowed to wear make up here, but if you cake it on too thick, everyone will call you a cake face or worse [lol] like everywhere else around the world. A typical day is going to your classes, recess, lunch etc. I'm not too sure about private schooling, because they are so up themselves and snooty its not funny. Where about's are in Australia are you hoping to study? If you know, I can give you further info. Just emailing me by clicking on my avatar thing =)
2 :
Well, it is very different here. You have to wear a uniform, makeup is allowed, just not in excessive amounts and the same with jewellery. You dont get a locker, you have to carry your stuff around with you. i dont know to much about boarding schools either because they are really stuck up. apart from that the schools are reasonable laid back and they have high standards

you can apply for a student visa, you will pay international student fees up front which will probably be a lot higher than you would pay in the UK, you must have enough money to support yourself though you can work 20 hours a week while studying and full time during official breaks
2 :
I would strongly discourage you from doing that. International student fees in Australia are extremely high and it would be a rather long program. The added value of the program is also only relative if you compare it to programs that may be available in your home country or Great Britain. In addition, you won't even be entitled to obtain concessions in NSW. That means even though you are a student, you will have to pay full price for public transport even though you are paying in loads of money. That will definitely add up as well. Australia is also not a cheap country to begin with and I believe that their schools are completely overrated. That is my personal opinion and maybe Australians will disagree with that. I would rather suggest that you look into doing an exchange semester instead if that's what you really want to do. Also, only very few students actually get to stay in Australia after they completed their studies. They want you there to pay in money. It's big business there, but they don't really offer you much in return. I think there are much better options than Australia.

People are just saying that to scare you. You don't need to lose weight. Wtf? All you need to do is toughen up. You really do. I'm in year 10 (Australia) and you have a disadvantage because you didn't do year 7 in high school. Year 7 is crucial because that's when you learn to be tough and no one will fight you because they are scared too... So you've just got to be tough. Weak people won't do well in public high schools. I'll be honest, it's really chaotic and you never know what wil happen, but you MUST let these people know that they CANNOT do anything to you.

Yes, you can apply to any colleges all over the world. When you visit college websites, and look at the applicant page, it will say stuff like "In-State, Out of State, & International" You would be under the international category.
2 :
You would look on college web site for requirements for international students. Make sure to check out tuition and room and board fees.

I'm applying for graduate school in Australia, and I was wondering what do they mean by 65%

I'm applying for graduate school in Australia, and I was wondering what do they mean by 65%?
I'm applying for graduate school in Australia, and I was wondering what do they mean by "must hold a Bachelor degree with an average of at least 65% (or equivalent to Australian 65%)" that is what they stated about grades... what would the 65% be in US standard 4.0 gpa format? thank you for your help!
Higher Education (University +) - 5 Answers

1 :
beats me.
2 :
its a C-
3 :
This means you must be equivalent to at least the 65th percentile of the Australian grade point standard in either standardized testing or prade point average in your high school or undergraduate tranfer transcripts. This would be comparatively to the US 4.0 GPA format in contrast with that of the Australian system of quantifying scores or grades.
4 :
65% is a D, so around 2.0 or lower GPA. Unless they mean percentile or something?
5 :
65% in Australia is a Credit. Australia uses the following High Distinction (A+ - 85%up), Distinction (A - 75-85%), Credit (B 65-75%), Pass I (C+ 60-65%), Pass II (C - 50-60%), Fail (D - below 50%). The % marks are misleading because they dont really translate to the number of correct answers. In most classes, the majority of students get a P1 or P2, a few get a Credit, fewer still a D, and perhaps one will get a HD (only some classes give these - all the science subjects I did only gave up to a D). So whatever a B is listed at in the US - that is what you need

You can only apply for your initial student visa from within Australia if you're from an assessment level 1 country e.g. the USA, UK, Canada and some other developed countries. Applicants from other assessment level countries must provide provide exceptional reasons to justify the grant of a visa. http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1219i.pdf http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/157a.pdf (Questions 28 & 42)

How many school days in Australia

How many school days in Australia?
In the US, all schools are required to have 180 days of school, not including weekends or breaks. How many in Australia? Remember: School days, not weekends, holidays, breaks, or vacations. Could you tell me where you found your answer?

200 days in Victoria. Looked at the school calender. Compared to the US there are much fewer holidays - our summer break is only 5-6 weeks depending on when christmas is.
2 :
i cant tell you how many days. i think the other guy would be close to right. we have four sets of holidays throughout the year, end of term 1, two weeks holiday. end of term 2, two weeks holiday, end of term 3, two weeks holiday, then end of term 4 we get 6 weeks over the christmas holiday. i think 200 days is pretty accurate. but me personally probably have 160-170 days at school. 30 being days off, arriving late, and suspension. and in year 9 currently we have this thing called 'new horizons'. a week each term we get out of school and go on camps and stuff, but i aint doing that shit, so i got a week off each term. im 2 weeks from ending term 2. then 2 weeks holiday. then term 3 commences. next semester. w00t new electives. gym, computer arts and court sports. easy shit. getting off track. anyway. good luck with your answer.

how many school days? TOO MANY!

Moving to Australia for school, possibly permanent later on or after if its possible

Moving to Australia for school, possibly permanent later on or after if its possible?
I'm planning to go to school in AU, but I have no idea how college works over there. I tried reading things online but I get so confused, can anyone tell me how it roughly works and what the yearly expenses would be? And are there AU's version of a community college like there is here in the US? Is transferring there hard?
Primary & Secondary Education - 1 Answers

Hey dude, I dunno how you transfer here but... The cost is about 20-25 thousand for an average arts type of course. Music and medicine and things cost more. This link might work http://www.futurestudents.unimelb.edu.au/int/fees/grad. I think your community collge is what we call TAFE. We call college, university and the form of study below that is TAFE. There isn't a lot of dorms around so a lot of students just rent houses together. TAFE is about 10-15 thousand a year for a diploma. Goes for two years. Most are around $10,000 a year i think. http://www.goldcoast.tafe.qld.gov.au/about_us/publications/index.html#international_2010 Havn't looked at the above link but the gold coast rules. Nothing is cheap. Good luck.

Cheap Boarding School Australia

Cheap Boarding School Australia?
i'm a 15 yr old female and i really want to go to boarding school. But my parents cant afford $40000 a year so does anyone know any cheap boarding schools in sydney or canberra???

Boarding schools are found in the most expensive private schools where the education fee is around 18-25K. What is the reason you wish to go to boarding school? Is it because you are in the country and wish to go to a city school - if so there may be a scholarship available. However, if you live in Sydney or Canberra itself you will find it hard to be accepted into a boarding school as the places are very limited (40-50 places) and are earmarked for country and international students only.
2 :
If you go to NZ there are plenty of boarding schools that are affordable. See link for one. You will not be considered an International student as an Aussie.
3 :
I don't think you'll be able to find a boarding school cheaper than $35,000.

Going to law school in Australia

Going to law school in Australia?
I am living in the United States and have been applying for law school. But, my fiance may have a wonderful job opportunity in Australia. Could I still apply for & attend a law school in Australia? I understand there is a difference in the legal systems, but I have my undergraduate in International Relations. If I couldn't attend a law school right away, what other similar avenues could I pursue?
Other - Australia - 3 Answers

Its possible - but the international fees were be very high. Depending on the state - law school is either an undergrad or a post grad degree and both start their year in February so it'll will be 2010 you will be looking at.
2 :
Hi, I understood your problem, I have a suggestion to you if you and your fiance are going to settle in Australia, then go for studying about Australian law,and any way you have the undergraduate in International Relations it will helps you in Australian law too. All the best.
3 :
Yes, you could apply for law school in Australia. Check out universities' websites for details on how to apply as an international student. Australia actually has a pretty similar system of law to the US. We both have common law systems (although I understand they use civil law in Louisiana) and our system of federalism was heavily modelled on yours.

Can you obtain financial aid in the USA for attending Grad School overseas(New Zealand.Australia)

Can you obtain financial aid in the USA for attending Grad School overseas(New Zealand.Australia)?
A few friends and I have been considering attending grad school in Australia/New Zealand. Obviously we would need to take out loans and I was wondering if these are easily obtainable. It's important to note that this is not a study abroad program within a United States University but actually attending a University there for Masters/PHD degrees.

Often times US Loan companies have a list of schools that they lend to and usually they are only in the US. I would suggest talking to your financial aid office at the school you're attending and see what they've had students do before. Also, because of the current economic down fall, many lending companies have had to close their opperations for a time. It may be very difficult to obtain a loan in the US, espcially if you don't have great credit.
2 :
If your school is listed here http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/FSLoo... you can use federal student loans and grants to study there. Select "Foreign country" from the dropdown on the second page.
3 :
There are 8 universities in New Zealand: Auckland, AUT (Auckland) Waikato (Hamilton), Massey (Palmerston North), Victoria (Wellington), Canterbury (Christchurch), Lincoln (near Christchurch), and Otago (Dunedin). US Financial Aid is available for courses at Auckland, Canterbury, Victoria, Waikato and Massey. It also appears to be available at AUT. I could not find anything about US Financial Aid on Otago's website, but they do have a contact in International Student Services for US Finacial Aid - so it's very likely that you can get it to study at Otago, too. Lincoln does not participate in the US Federal Loan program, but is registered with a private loan provider.

my child is 5 yrs old, how expensive is it to send my child in school in australia?
i am still in the state of confusion whether to bring our child along or not as we fly to australia.
Toddler & Preschooler - 4 Answers

its basically free to send your child to public school here in aus, except for uniforms and voluntary year fees both of which are quite cheap. though, i dont understand why you would leave your child if you are coming to australia.
2 :
Yes, it is free to send your child to a publicly-provided school (aka, not private school) besides voluntary contributions and the like. This may depend on the school however. High School has rather lower fees as well, and if your child and yourself have been living here for a while, once your child heads to University your child may be eligible for HECS-help whereby the government loans you money to pay for your University fees and your child won't have to pay back until your child's yearly income exceeds ~$30,000. So in terms of education, Australia is extremely generous (at least compared to the States).
3 :
What area will you be living in when you come here and out of curiosity, where are you coming from? Anyway, Depending on when his birthday is, he will be either in 'Prep' (like preschool) or Grade 1. If he turns 6 before june 30 he'll be in grade 1, if he turns 6 after june 30 then he'll be in Prep (prepatory grade). The new school year starts at the end of January next year and school wraps up this year around Dec 11th and the kids get 6 weeks summer holidays. If you intend to go to a public school, which the majority of australia kids do, it is very inexpensive. Public schools here in australia are great! A normal booklist which includes all their books, pencils, folders, glue, school fees etc...for the whole year is about $150 give or take and then you need to purchase uniforms as well which would probably be another $150-$200 depending on the uniform at your school as they all differ slightly. Obviously he'll need shoes and a lunchbox as well, as here in australia you provide lunch everyday. There is no cafeteria although they can buy food at the canteen/tuckshop but its not usual practice here to do that everyday. I believe you would have to spend no more than $500 at an absolute maximum which is cheap! A private school you could be up for something between $3000 - $5000 a year depending on the school you choose. My son starts prep next year and his booklist is $114, 3 sets of shorts and t-shirt uniforms will cost me $141, plus some shoes, a school bag and lunchbox. It will cost me no more than $300-$320. hope that helps answer your question! I think you should bring your child, australia is a great country and he'll love it here!
4 :
The above posters are assuming that your child is a PR. If they are a citizen or a PR then yes, the cost is minimal BUT if you are not a PR then the cost to send your child to school is around 4-5K per year (international non-PR fee) plus uniform, books etc. We have a post doc in our lab that has a 2 and 5 year old and that is the cost for the 5yr old for kindy (state school).

Hi there Here is a link to the University of Queensland (I'm not employed by them) that might be of interest. http://www.uq.edu.au/study/program.html?acad_prog=2194 It offers a bachelor program in hotel management. But there a number of universities and TAFE institutes that can offer similar courses of study. Here is a further links http://www.australia.edu/ http://www.australian-universities.com/colleges/list.php Here are further links about studying in Australia: http://studyinaustralia.gov.au/Sia/Splash2.aspx http://www.immi.gov.au/students/ http://australia.gov.au/topics/education-and-training/overseas-students My advice to you is to be very careful about which school you choose. I will be honest with you in that there have been problems with private registered training organisations in this country that have closed due to financial issues, charging excessive fees, non-issue of diplomas or completions certificates, or non-compliance in being properly registered. You must make sure that they registered with the Australian Department of Education as a certified supplier who has been granted authority to issue awards for different levels of study. If you want more assurance you are better off selecting a university or a TAFE college (one level lower to university they offer certificate, diploma and advance diploma courses which lead to entry to university) which is Government owned and operated. You will pay more for a course but have better security and peace of mind that these instituions will not collapse. Cheers Mr Books

You should really buy a university book for australia. VTAC - For Victoria (melbourne) http://www.vtac.edu.au/ UAC - For New South Wales (sydney) http://www.uac.edu.au/ QTAC - For Queensland (brisbane) http://www.qtac.edu.au/ The book has a list of every possible carreer and then it shows every university that has these courses/bachelor/degree etc for the desired career and gives you information on what score you will need, recommended knowledge/studies, career information and much more additional information. Every year 11/12 student in australia recieves their states book. We also use these books to apply for university. I am unsure of the answer to this question but if University of Sydney or University of Melbourne offers architecture then I would deffinetly consider them because they are SOME of Australia's top universitys. By using your VTAC book it would help enable you to find out which university would be best for archetecture. Its like the bible for University! Damn I am wondering how you could get a book... I live in Queensland but needed a New south wales one so I went to the newsagency and they ordered me a new south wales one... I wonder if they would post to lebanon

I grew up in Australia, however I lived overseas for a while and I went to an International British School and I picked up some of the slang but since being back almost 3 years now I can't remember the word they used to use. Recognition of an American going to law school in Australia

Recognition of an American going to law school in Australia?
If an American goes to law school in Australia will their degree get recognized in the states?
Other - Education - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Nope. Australia and America do not have the same laws, therefore you will have to get your degree in America to practice law here.
2 :
if you want to be admitted to practice law in the US you generally must attend an ABA-accredited school, which means a school located in the US. Besides, if you go to law school in Australia they will teach you Australian law, which is not quite the same as American law.
3 :
You may be able to sit for the bar in the state you want to practice in. It is actually the license that allows you to practice law and I believe in many states you can sit for the bar without having attended law school. So you would certainly be able to sit for those exams. The other option you have is international law, so your background in Australian law would be very relevant for any corporation working within the UK system. DA

I have a PR! Do I need my A & AS Levels after O Levels in British school to apply for med school in Australia

I have a PR! Do I need my A & AS Levels after O Levels in British school to apply for med school in Australia?
I recently Finished my O levels in a British School in Dubai. I want to study in an Australian University. An MBBS course My Question is: A & AS Levels are needed or are the O levels enough equivalency for the Australian Curruculum?
Other - Australia - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I would say yes. My understanding is that O levels are equivelant to our grade 10. There is no way in heck you will get into University with that. I believe A levels are our year 12.
2 :
You won't get into any Australian university for any degree with only O levels - A levels is the minimum requirement as that is the equivalent of the Australian year 12. For an undergraduate MBBS, you will need very high A levels (AAA) and good results in UMAT as entry is highly competitive, even for full fee paying international students. It will be even more competitive for a Commonwealth supported student which is what you will be as a PR - only the top 1% of Commonwealth supported students have a chance of getting into undergraduate Medicine. At many Australian universities however, Medicine is a graduate degree so you first will need a 3 year undergraduate degree with a high GPA and then good results in GAMSAT.
