To be a Primary School Teacher in Australia

To be a Primary School Teacher in Australia?
I have a Commerce Degree from India and is NZQA assessed (equivalent to a NZ Commerce degree). I always had a passion for teaching but due to reasons could not study for it. I am now ready for it and would like more information about the qualifications required to be a Primary School Teacher in Australia? Please advise...

I believe you need to obtain a degree in Primary teaching. If you are prepared to study again, it will take around 3-4 years ( i think). I'm not sure because I am highschool trained. In Queensland, there is an oversupply of primary teachers. If you do not do remote service, you may find it hard to get 'permanent' employment. You may be lucky to get 'contract' positions, but this does not guarantee holiday pay like permanency. With your business degree, why not consider secondary education? I did an International business degree, then 10yrs later decided to teach. I used my business degree as a foundation, then did a bachelor of secondary education (graduate entry) in 1 1/2 years through University of Qld St Lucia. Now the course offered is only a year. This is quicker than getting a primary qualification. Also, I prefer to teach secondary because you can specialise in particular areas. Unlike primary, where you need to teach all subjects, often integrated into themes. Too much work for me. I take my hat off to primary teachers. You also could specialise in business. Because my business degree also incorporated politics, my secondary teaching area was SOSE. Hope this helps.
