Things to do in Melbourne City (Australia) these school holidays?
My sister (21) is going to take me (14) too the city for a day. She wants to do cheap or free things. I live in Victoria so I have already done all the normal things such as the Aquarium, beach,Museum etc. Oh and we are going to the Australia Open another day. Any ideas?

if you like cricket the 2020 match is on sunday the 11th Australia vs South Africa, There's luna park but it costs a bit. Have you done the Eureka tower? It's not to badly priced. You can also go in the "edge" which is the glass box that comes out of the tower. It's way cheaper than the southern star (new ferris wheel) and you get way better views. If you like soccer there's Melbourne Victory games, $10 for a kids ticket. The queens victoria market is a good place to visit, cheap shopping. You can go on cruises along the yarra river. All these things cost money though. A picnic and/or walkin the botanical gardens is a good idea and doesn't cost anything.

Queen Victoria Market at night is awesome. It is on from Wednesday 26 November 2008 and runs every Wednesday until 25 February 2009. It has free entry. Over 35 stalls of freshly cooked international food. Over 100 stalls of shopping. Massages, beauty, jewellery making. 4 bars. Tarot readings. Or go to crown to watch a movie and then go out for a cheap asian dinner in richmond.

If you are just attending for one semester, then it won't really matter at all whether Swinburne is a 'good' school or not. What would you consider to be a "good" school? Swinburne is a legitimate Australian university with some programs that are unique to it. If your main aim is to experience life in Australia, then Swinburne is good enough. Hope this helps.

What is a typical day for a high school student in Australia

What is a typical day for a high school student in Australia?
I am doing a report and I am looking for specific times. Do they start at 8 and end at 3 like we do in the US?

No, kids in Australia often start at 9:20am and finish at about 3:20. Time zones in Australia cover big land areas, so it's hard to adjust. One can be going to bed when the Sun is still way up in the sky because the time is adjusted to the liking of city people! Animals may start waking up as the Sun rises but people are still supposed to be in bed according to the time. Country people complain a lot about time zones here!!! I would say that Aussie kids are more laid-back at school than US kids. They are often crazy about sport and lazy about academic merits. Top academic performers in Australian schools get little notice from other kids. In some bad areas they even get abused or bullied by tough kids! But if you are good at sports, you are heros and respected by every one. Migrant kids tend to dominate academic areas. Aussies kids dominate sports. There are 4 terms. Holidays are between terms. the longest holiday is Summer holiday after term 4 and the start of next year. It is about 6-7 weeks long.
